The gateway to VET trainers in food industry

This website introduces the “e-Reference Tools for VET Trainers in Food Industry (e-FOST)” project.
Here you can find information about the project tasks, development and outcomes, as well as a bunch of course materials, guidelines and useful links. The project e-FOST is realized in the framework of European Leonardo da Vinci II programme and corresponds to Objective “C”, Priority 4, Measure Pilot Projects.

e-FOST project outline

e-FOST project is developed by our project network – our working team and associated partners, and our target users.

Our basic outcomes include: an e-FOST training programme for continuous training of teachers/trainers in the food industry. The programme exploits e-based learning approach in preparation of multitask e-reference tools consisting of modules with flexible content. e-FOST Consortium answers the needs of the target groups for innovative knowledge and skills.

Our mission is to help people make the right choice in an easy and enjoyable way. The project partners work together to reach the potential users with positive education messages that stress the importance of the balance between variety, enjoyment, work and knowledge.

e-FOST innovative approaches

E-based learning is a field that has undergone strong development in the recent years, thus receiving a high attention from the educational institutions, especially in the field of further and higher education. EU strategy promotes also distance and open learning.

However, e-based learning does not eliminate the need for skilled teachers. Moreover, it expects their participation into the educational process. The e-based learning, as a combination of e-communication, e-training and e-assessment, shows different ways to learn, teach or communicate, proven to be effective in certain conditions. In these type of learning, the lecturer has become gradually detached from the educational method, due to the use of ICT.

The use of information technologies imposes critical challenges to the educational process. There is a need for understanding of the human and social implications in the training process. This tendency suggests promotion of supportive e-learning, which means that the teachers / trainers participate in the process of selecting and structuring of the appropriate course material, with the support of electronic resources and facilities. The e-learning applications can be a medium for storing and distributing of information, or can be used to collect submitted work or provide activities. But they do not take the place of the educator. In fact, they even fortify the role of the human tutor.

E-based learning only shifts the priority in the learning process to the learner and away from the instructor. The learner gets to decide how and when to look for an instructor, and when to learn from a book, a simulation or a website. The learner decides when and where to employ the wide range of available techniques. The learner chooses what works best at any particular moment, in any particular location, in any particular working situation.
